This museum is very cool, especially if you like cars or automatic music instruments. I was here for the instruments and kept skipping past the beautifully restored Packards and Duesenbergs so I could see the next music box or orchestreon.

A weird thing about this museum is it's location, at the edge of the Merle Norman Cosmetics complex in Sylmar. The museum is basically the private collection of the company's founders. The surrounding area (Sylmar and San Fernando) is a very depressed area with a mostly Latino immigrant population. It's odd to see such an ostentatious display of wealth in the middle of it.

Across the street is an imposing building (not seen, to the left) which contains the part of the collection which can only be seen in guided tours, which require an advance reservation. Many of the more interesting automatic instruments are in that collection, so I hope to come back with a tour group.
